Senior School

Our vibrant and diverse community includes 470 day students and 130 students who board full time.

We are small enough to know every child well and be able to offer  an individualised approach to their learning and pastoral care, yet large enough to offer a broad curriculum and extensive range of co-curricular opportunities.

Every member of our staff is passionate about providing the best possible educational experience for every student. We cater for a range of abilities, providing support to all students to reach their full potential. We have many gifted students who achieve outstanding results in public examinations and are equally proud of those students whose effort leads to results that surpass expectations.

Through our House and Tutor system and small class sizes, we know each student well and can provide bespoke guidance and outstanding pastoral care. Parents are regularly informed of attainment grades and the results of standardised assessments and aspirational targets are set, relative to each student’s ability in each subject.

Our stunning 110 acre university style campus boasts spacious classrooms and excellent on-site facilities for Sport, Music and Drama, Science, Media Technology and the Arts.

An extensive range of co-curricular activities and clubs operate for extended learning, enrichment and enjoyment, where there truly is something for everyone.

Royal Russell students are happy, confident and articulate individuals who take great pride in their support for each other and in their environment.

We welcome you to come and see our unique school in action.

What our Inspection Report says:

Pupils make good progress in relation to their ability profile. They have secure literacy and numeracy skills and, by the time they reach the Sixth Form, have developed a capacity to think critically and creatively. With few exceptions, pupils gain places at their first choice of university. The quality of written work is good in all subjects. Essays are carefully constructed and imaginative writing is well developed. Pupils are articulate, whether in formal debate or speaking informally.

The pupils’ successful achievements are supported by their excellent attitudes to learning. Pupils of all ages behave well, enjoy learning and work productively. They participate willingly in discussions and are keen to ask and answer questions. They enjoy strong relationships with their peers and with their teachers.

A significant proportion of lessons have outstanding features. In their questionnaire responses, both pupils and parents show high levels of satisfaction with the quality of teaching and its impact on progress. The teachers’ subject knowledge is very good and the wide-ranging resources are well-used to stimulate pupils effectively, and to stimulate their interest.

What our Parents say:

An excellent school with caring and professional staff.' Parental Survey, Year 9 Parent 'We have always felt the campus/facilities are great. Royal Russell pupils are always polite and well presented. My son has been extremely happy at the school since the age of four and a large part of this has been down to the excellent pastoral care and genuine interest in the individual.
